Facilities Engineer (People and Organisation)

Role Overview: This role requires a combination of engineering expertise, project management skills, and a commitment to creating a safe and efficient educational environment. The successful candidate will contribute to the school’s success by managing construction projects, maintaining facilities, and promoting sustainability and safety. This role would suit a facilities engineer or an engineer of any specialty looking to develop expertise in facilities management.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with school administrators and stakeholders to assess the school’s infrastructure needs.
  • Develop long-term infrastructure plans to accommodate the school’s growth and changing requirements.
  • Manage service providers handling waste management, pest control and grounds/gardens.
  • Negotiate with third party contractors to ensure cost-effectiveness and adherence to standards.
  • Enforce strict Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies in all facility-based school activities.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for students, staff, and visitors by addressing safety concerns and hazards.
  • Ensure compliance with local and international engineering, environmental, and safety regulations.
  • Implement environmentally friendly practices and technologies to reduce the school’s carbon footprint.
  • Collaborate with other school staff, teachers, and administrators to address infrastructure-related concerns that impact learning and teaching.
  • Keep detailed records of infrastructure projects, maintenance activities, and safety inspections.
  • Prepare monthly reports of service providers performances.
  • Conduct regular inspections of school buildings, grounds, and utilities to identify maintenance and repair needs related to gardening and ground maintenance, pest and rodent control, and waste management.

Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or facilities management.
  • 3 or more years in a comparable role.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
  • The ability to understand, translate, and communicate complex building and building services drawings.
  • The ability to think both strategically and pragmatically with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • CAD design skills.
