Technician, Electrical and General Services
Role Overview: The Technician, Electrical and General Services role is integral to the school’s Facility Management Team and is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and support of electrical systems and general facility infrastructure within the school.
Responsibilities:
- Use of various tools and techniques to diagnose problems, such as testing equipment, voltage meters, and circuit analysers.
- Inspect, maintain, and repair all electrical installations, equipment, and fixtures across the school premises.
- Conduct routine checks on lighting systems, circuit breakers, distribution panels, and emergency power systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve electrical faults or malfunctions in classrooms, labs, offices, and other areas.
- Carry out minor carpentry, masonry, and general maintenance tasks as needed.
- Support the setup and relocation of school furniture, classroom fittings, and office equipment.
- Provide technical assistance during school events (e.g., power setup, sound systems).
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests raised by staff through the school’s ticketing or reporting system.
- Record and report maintenance activities, defects, and completed work in line with school policies.
- Collaborate with external service providers, when necessary, under the direction of the Duty Engineer.
- Ensure strict compliance with safety standards and regulations in all activities.
Qualification, skills and knowledge:
- Technical certification (e.g., OND, Trade Test, or NABTEB) in Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in electrical and building maintenance.
- Creative problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
- Strong time-management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Knowledge of health and safety rules and regulations as it relates to electrical works and building maintenance.
- Physical fitness to carry out manual tasks and work in various environments.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
