The first few weeks of term are a critical time in any school — not just for students, but for the school community as a whole. And at Charterhouse Lagos, this September marks a major milestone: the opening of our Secondary School and Boarding Houses.

From Primary through to Year 9, students are in class, teachers are on site, and the rhythm of school life is fully underway. Lessons are taking place across all year groups. And following our successful first year of operation, we are proud to be fully accredited by Accreditation International — a reflection of the high standards we’ve set from the start.

But this week, we turn our focus to a defining part of our identity: boarding.

A Different Kind of Boarding School

There are many perceptions of boarding. Some families imagine it to be strict and impersonal. Others worry it lacks warmth or flexibility. Our model is designed to challenge those assumptions — and offer something different.

At Charterhouse Lagos, boarding is built on choice. Families can opt for weekly boarding, where students return home at weekends, or termly boarding, for those who need a more continuous routine or are not resident in Lagos or Nigeria. Both options are underpinned by the same core principles: safety, structure, and support.

Already, the feedback from students and parents has been overwhelmingly positive.

Boarders have praised the quality of the food, the atmosphere in the Hub — our central boarding community space — and the sense of calm and comfort in their rooms. Parents have told us they are impressed by the boarding facilities, and more importantly, by the way their children are being cared for — not just managed, but truly known.

The Power of Structure and Support

A strong boarding environment is not simply about where students sleep. It’s about how they live.

Every evening, students take part in supervised prep — structured homework time led by teachers. This is not free-for-all study. It’s focused, quiet, and purposeful. Students benefit from expert support when they need it, and they are learning how to work independently, with discipline and routine.

Outside of prep, boarding students build friendships, learn responsibility, and become part of a small, intentional community. There is time to relax, time to socialise, and time to reflect.

What we are building is not just a boarding house. It’s a home — one where our values of Respect, Wellbeing, Integrity, and Courtesy are lived every day.

    Come and See for Yourself

Charterhouse Lagos is now open across Primary and Secondary. Our teachers are in school, delivering lessons directly to students, and our community is growing week by week. In September 2026, we will complete our school with the launch of Year 10 (IGCSE) and Year 12 (A level).

We invite you to book a tour, come and visit the boarding house, and speak to the team. Taster Days are also available for prospective students, and assessments can be done in person or online.

Whether you’re based in Lagos, Abuja, or further afield, we’re here to help you explore what makes Charterhouse Lagos — and our boarding — truly special.
