Science Teacher (Secondary)

Adejokun Adebusola Amao

Adejokun Adebusola is a dedicated educator with over 25 years of experience teaching KS3, KS4, and KS5 Science. In his middle management roles within secondary education, he has developed strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills, creating vibrant learning environments. Adejokun has organized STEM fairs that ignite students’ curiosity and passion for scientific discovery.

His Silver Level Ski Certificate reflects his enthusiasm for embracing challenges, while his hobbies—traveling, exploring the arts, and reading—bring creativity and global perspectives to his teaching. As a member of the American Society for Microbiology, the American Chemical Society (community member), and Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants, he enriches his classroom with diverse professional insights.

Adejokun’s commitment to professional growth drives him to pursue extensive local and international professional development courses, ensuring his teaching remains innovative and impactful. Whether guiding students through intricate scientific concepts or inspiring them at STEM events, he fosters critical thinking and a love for science.

His dynamic approach, combined with his leadership in STEM initiatives and global professional engagement, makes Adejokun a valued contributor to the school community, dedicated to nurturing the next generation of scientists and innovators 

Class Teacher (Primary)

Susan Rothwell

Sue has taught in the UK for over twenty years across the whole primary age range. She has a B.Ed Honours degree in Applied Education from the University of Lancaster. She moved to Uganda in 2010 where she taught in two international schools. In 2020 she moved to an international school here in Lagos and is excited to be working at Charterhouse Lagos where she believes great things are going to happen. 

She has been teaching for over thirty years and has a wealth of experience across the primary age group. 

Director of Music

Jonathan Haslett

Jonathan Haslett is an experienced music educator with a Bachelor of Music degree from Queen’s University Belfast, where he specialized in piano performance, and a PGCE from Durham University.

He began his teaching career in 2004 and has over 20 years of experience in the classroom. In the UK, he has served as a music specialist and Head of Music, teaching across various key stages. Jonathan has held leadership roles in both the UK and China, including Director of Music and Director of Creative Arts, where he has also conducted orchestras and choirs.

Performance highlights include accompanying and conducting students for events such as Disneyland Shanghai, the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, and Edinburgh Castle. 

Nigerian and African Studies Teacher

Mary Akintola

Mary holds a Bachelor of Arts in Education (B.A.Ed) in Guidance and Counselling from the University of Lagos (2010). She also earned a Cambridge International Certificate in Teaching and Learning from the University of Cambridge in 2019. 

Mary has over ten years of teaching experience, having worked in key educational roles since 2015, including as a Year 5 teacher, Key Stage 2 Coordinator, and currently as the Nigerian & African Studies Lead Teacher at Charterhouse Lagos. 

Secondary Humanities Teacher

Andy Stephens

Andy brings a diverse background to his teaching, with an academic path that began with a degree in Music (BMus) and evolved into a Master’s degree in Poverty Reduction and Development Management (MSc). Before entering education, he worked in the international development sector across the UK, Malawi and the Middle East—experiences that continue to inform his global perspective in the classroom. 

Andy began his teaching career a decade ago in Colchester, UK, and for the past six years has worked at international schools in Nakuru, as a Humanities teacher, and in Nairobi, Kenya, as Head of Geography. Passionate about connecting the curriculum to real-world issues, he aims to inspire a love of learning and curiosity about the world in his students. 

Outside the classroom, Andy is a keen runner and an enthusiastic musician – you might catch him playing the trumpet, piano, or even the didgeridoo. 

Class Teacher / Mathematics Lead

Michael Jolly

Michael graduated back in 1992 with a PGCE from University College Wales after having obtained his degree in Sociology and Social Policy at the University of Southampton. Michael’s first two years of teaching were at a local Primary school in Blackpool, UK, before starting his overseas career in Kuwait.

Since then, he has taught in Colombia, Ethiopia, Egypt, Brunei, Uruguay and China, spending a total of 30 years in International Education before arriving here at Charterhouse Lagos. He is passionate about teaching Mathematics to the younger generation, developing the realisation that Mathematics is part of our everyday lives no matter our age. He is always focused on establishing respectful working relationships with his students. 

Director of Sport (Primary and Secondary)

Andrew Jamieson

Andrew drives a positive and nurturing environment for ‘Sport for All’ and opportunities for elite performance. Children in his duty of care have enjoyed success at local, regional, and national levels in various sports, with a significant number becoming international sportsmen and women. In addition to teaching in several UK schools, Mr Jamieson has also taught in international schools in Kenya and Singapore. 

Head of STEM

Drew Buddie

Drew Buddie joins Charterhouse Lagos as Head of STEM, bringing with him 37 years of rich, hands-on teaching experience and a rare distinction in education: having taught every age group from Reception to A Level and IB Diploma Computer Science. A proud Scot and lifelong supporter of Motherwell FC, Drew is as passionate about fostering curiosity and creativity in the classroom as he is about celebrating individuality and community spirit. His career has taken him from classrooms in the UK and Egypt to international platforms, where he has spoken at educational events across the globe, including five times at the prestigious MIT-hosted World Scratch Conferences.

 

Drew is known for designing lessons that surprise, challenge, and inspire, blending coding, storytelling, board games, history, and digital tools into unforgettable STEM experiences. He draws inspiration from educational thinkers such as Jesse Schell and James Paul Gee, and his work often honours the playful learning legacy of Bernie DeKoven.

 

Whether launching a robotics club, leading a forensics-based simulation, or helping students build Top Trumps cards to explore STEM identity, Drew’s approach is driven by joy, curiosity, and a belief that great learning happens when students are free to imagine boldly and think deeply.

French Teacher (Primary and Secondary)

Augustine Bindop Fils

Augustine is a native French speaker with over 10 years of diversified experience in teaching French as a Foreign Language.

He is a certified IGCSE French teacher, and a master’s degree holder in French.

Class Teacher / Values (PHSE) Lead

Kareen Martinez

Kareen has 19 years of teaching experience, having taught for 9 years in the USA and 3 years in the UAE before moving to China, where she taught for 6 years. While in China, she served as Head of English before moving into the role of Head of Primary. She joined Charterhouse Lagos as one of the founding teachers in the 2024-2025 academic year.

Kareen holds a Master’s degree in Elementary Education and a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She is passionate about teaching and is dedicated to nurturing students’ growth, curiosity, and love of learning. 

Class Teacher

Katie Owen

Katie Owen was educated in the UK and started her teaching career in a primary school in Rugby. She has been teaching for 17 years and holds a BA from University of Bath and a PGCE Primary from Manchester Metropolitan University. She has experience working in international schools across four countries and until recently, taught in Nairobi, Kenya.

She is excited to share her love of learning with a new generation of students at Charterhouse Lagos. 

Class Teacher

Meagan Wright

Meaghan hails from Auckland, New Zealand. She has been travelling for the past 14 years and has enjoyed living and teaching in London, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi and Poland. During her career, she has also taught swimming, worked with people with special needs, and been a governess in private homes around the world.

Mandarin Lead (Primary and Secondary)

Tracey Kang

Tracey was born in Beijing, China, and received her education in mainland China, Japan, and Hong Kong. She holds Chinese teaching certificates from both China and Washington, D.C., USA. She earned her BA (Hons), followed by an MA in Language from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. She is currently pursuing her second Master’s degree in Education with a focus on Globalization. Prior to joining to Charterhouse Lagos, Tracey has six years of teaching experience in China and Thailand. 

Her strength lies in serving as a cultural ambassador and bridge-building educator, contributing to a more international and globalised learning environment. She helps students understand both the world and themselves from multiple perspectives.
